NFL: New England Patriots Analysis

The NFL season is coming and in order to prepare you optimally for the new season as a follower of NFL-Streams, we take a close look at every team in the 32-in-32 series! From the newcomers to the young ‘trotting’ and the new state of affairs on the depth chart: everything will be covered. In part 32 the team that wants to further expand the dynasty in 2019: the New England Patriots.

With the 32nd pick in the first round of the NFL draft, the New England Patriots chose Arizona State wide receiver N’Keal Harry. Analysts described the choice as ‘on-Belichick’ because the head coach of the Patriots rarely opts for attacking talent in the first round. He has never even chosen a wide receiver this early. The message was clear: quarterback Tom Brady would have to deal with a lack of weapons and Harry would have to be one of the players to solve that. Whether that will work out is questionable: Harry starts the season at Injured Reserve with an ankle injury.

In the second round, New England added a new cornerback in the person of JoeJuan Williams van Vanderbilt. In the third round, Chase Winovich (DE, Michigan), Damien Harris (RB, Alabama) and Yodny Cajuste (OT, West Virginia) were added to the ranks. Especially Winovich seems to be able to count on a lot of playing time. Cajuste opens the season on the non-football injury list after an operation on his thigh.

If you win a Super Bowl at 10-3, there won’t be many people who already ask too many questions about your defense while watching on NFL-Streams. And rightly so. The Super Bowl was a horror for many neutral viewers to look at, but fans of good defensive play were served at their beck and call. Several players showed their ability to do their job at crucial moments. Jason McCourty avoided an almost certain touchdown pass and Stephon Gillmore caught an interception with which he more or less decided the game. Around them, other well-known names like Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Dont’a Hightower and Kyle van Noy also played important roles.

They are all back for the 2019 season. DE Trey Flowers and DT Malcom Brown have left, but LB Jamie Collins and DE Michael Bennett are strengthening the defense. With Elandon Roberts still on the roster, the linebackers seem to be doing well. The main question seems to be whether Bennett can bring enough to make Flowers forget. NFL-Streams states the depth of the defensive tackles and cornerbacks can also become a pain point.

From Stidham it is a small step – or throw – to an undrafted player who dominated the storylines in August. Jakobi Myers, a wide receiver from NC State, made an impression during the Patriots training camp and earned a place in the team with some excellent performances. It’s clear that Myers will have to put up with some bigger names in the pecking order, but the start is promising. The return of Josh Gordon also helps the attack of New England. The big question there is not whether Gordon can be of value to his team, but whether he can remain a member of that team. Should things go wrong again with the addiction-sensitive player, then it is most likely the end of the story for him in the NFL.

Who else would bet against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick? NFL-Streams states as long as Brady remains whole and strong enough, little seems to stand in the way of the duo. It helps that the Miami Dolphins have embraced the mantra ‘suck for Tua’. That probably saves the Patriots the almost traditional out-and-out defeat of the Dolphins. The New York Jets look a bit stronger with Le’Veon Bell. Like the Buffalo Bills, they won’t be able to keep the Patriots from winning the league.

Between week 8 and week 14, the New England Patriots will have their toughest series of matches. After Baker Mayfield’s Browns have visited Foxborough in week 8, the Patriots have to go to Baltimore. After the bye in week 10 there will be a visit to Philadelphia, a home game against the Cowboys and a game in Houston, after which in week 14 the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes will come to New England for their grudge match. “The Patriots’ schedule, however, is certainly not one of the most difficult in the NFL” says NFL-Streams . This should enable Belichick & co. to reach the playoffs fairly comfortably.
